Looking at life
through a child's eyes
by Toni Ullom
I am not a toy that feels nothing,
when it's pushed aside. It can not feel lonely, un-loved, it doesn't
wonder why. But I can. I am not a tree, it see's nothing around it, no
not a thing. Face's filled with sadness, tears on a cheek, or scary
things the come in the middle or a dream. But I can. I am not a stalk of
corn who has ears but can not hear. It hears not the sounds of anger, or
the voices of fear as they ring in its ears. But I can. I am not a stone
it has no memory of the past. No mind that remembers promises that never
ever last. But I can. I can do all of these without a doubt, so remember
I am here. To watch and learn from all of those who I hold so dear.
