Do you use God like a MasterCard?

by Toni Ullom

Don't laugh, I know it sounds strange to read that. A lot of times we treat God like he is a charge card. We promise to pay our debt to him later if he can just give us what we want now. We promise never to use him again. We just need this one all important thing and we'll start paying him back with our loyalty ASAP. The problem is, we want to pay him on timely payments. When it's convenient for us to work him into our schedule. The once a month payment plan doesn't work with God. Going to church every now and then, occasionally praying and giving thanks doesn't fill the bill. God gives us a lot of "grace time" to repay our debt but it's our responsibility to keep our balance low. Each time you pray and show gratitude for something, God see's a glimmer of hope in you. A bit of honesty. But like all credit cards, if you keep adding to your bill, only paying the minimum due, the interest will soon eat you alive. So keep the debt you owe to God low, give him what is due him in full and you will have good credit with him forever.
