What's a silly prayer?
by Toni Ullom
Each day is a struggle, bills pore in, money
is tight. I can't afford anything to go wrong. If anything breaks
down, I'll have to do without, if I get sick, I can't afford to go
to the doctor. Surely life wasn't meant to be this way! Does this
sound like your life? You're not alone, most of my life has been
spent wearing these shoes. Yet I see others with broken homes,
children with broken hearts, and I find myself thankful for what I
have. I find a way to share what I have with those less fortunate
and by blessing them, I am blessed.
I have seen times when I didn't know how my family would have
groceries the next week, but God has yet to fail me or let me go
hungry. I suppose you could look at my life and say it stinks. But I
feel it is a blessing. If I were not in my situation and everything
was going great, I'd forget God. I have had to learn to depend on
him, to put my trust in him to keep things up and running. I
actually have come to depend on him to the point where that I can
pretty much push worry aside.
Inside I know he is with me, he loves me and he will take care of
me. I no longer totally freak out when something goes wrong, I just
pray, walk away and forget it. There is nothing as comforting as
knowing God is there around the clock. People sometimes look at me
like I've lost my mind when I tell them I pray for everything.
My car was acting up on the way to school and I just prayed for it.
Well now my car is running fine. while I was doing this, in my head
I heard a voice say, "now that's stupid". I said out loud " satan
get out of my head" and just kept going with my car puttering down
the road. By the time I had gotten to school my car was running
great.
Even in things that sound crazy to others, God, I would think, looks
at it as a form of faith. The bible says God can do anything, so why
limit him to just what others think is ok to ask for. He is your
God, he valued you enough to give his son to save your life. He is
your best friend, your perfect father and all good fathers want to
help their children and you are his child.
Update on car 09/30/06 It seems God has decided to make this car
into a rolling miracle. A couple months ago I finally got the car
fixed after driving it for months with no vacuum hoses attached,
actually they were melted together, the catalytic converter was
stopped up, the radiator busted, the gp something or another switch
was melted. Yea this car was one hot little number. smile... Got
that fixed and then this past week it broke down on me again about
25 miles from home. I didn't realize that one belt controlled the
water pump, power steering, alternator, well I broke down with no
one to call. I did what I could after the car ran hot on me and
climbed in it once more. I cracked it and started to pray and
explain to God why I had to have him get me home without ruining the
car. It was all I had to get me and my family to church. I drove
home that 25 miles with it boiling hot. The thermostat inside, the
gauge went about 2 inch's below the hot line and broke. I drove 65
MPH all the way home with no trouble. Car lights were on and it
seemed ok. When I pulled in smoke was pouring from under the motor,
the radiator was boiling over. Well according to several folks. I
should have a cracked head or a ruined motor. No battery, and I
don't know what else. Basically I should have a car that won't
start. We'll I didn't loose a battery, my radiator didn't burst, my
water pump is fine, there is no smoking coming from my car. Actually
since we put the new belt that broke back on, it runs better than
ever. No more funny unknown noises.
A lady at church said "that car's been running on a prayer ever
since I meet you a year ago." Oh and she should know, she's rode in
it with me a few times and heard me pray for it.
