Children do you know how much your parents love you?
by Toni Ullom
At the words, "your test results are positive" we rejoiced. A little
person for us to love was coming into our lives. Someone to complete
our family, to make us smile with pride as we showed you to
strangers and said, " That's my little gift from heaven!" We
promised God to raise you in church and teach you of him. But once
you arrived one reason or the other, we broke our promises. We told
you of God but didn't expand on him in a way that would make you
learn to lean on him in times of trouble. Finally we grew up and
realized that we are not young anymore. We discovered how many
area's that we failed our children in, the greatest being God. After
years of struggling to get our own messed up life together we
realize that our children are not exempt for eternity. We now try to
fix what we messed up on and talk to you about God. A little to late
as we no longer can make you go to church, it's now your decision
and one we fear you won't ever come too. Your blood is on our hands,
but you don't see it that way. When we try to talk to you about God
and eternity you change the subject. You walk away or hang up the
phone on us. It's not your fault that you do this; it's like someone
pushing you. We are pushing you with every ounce of love we have.
The thoughts of us making it to heaven and you not, causes one of
the worst pains in our hearts imaginable. I know in heaven there
will be no sadness or tears. But trying to imagine that, when you're
so afraid your child that you love with all your heart is in hell is
unbearable. There are not enough tears to wash away the anguish you
feel, the depression that eats you alive. So for the sake of your
family, at least give them a chance to talk to you about God.
Parents aren't perfect and we do make mistakes. On the other hand,
we have put a lot of our life into yours so bare with us. It's only
done out of the same love that we gave when we kissed your boo
boo's.
